Recent books read by yours truly:

The Book of Salt by Monique Truong – I first heard about this book on Sugarbutch Chronicles.  I love the interactions between Gertrude Stein and her partner Alice Toklas.  Novels/fiction are not my first choice of reading material, but I just could not resist this one with its historical setting and flashes of gender theory.

The Slow Fix by Ivan E. Coyote – This is the first collection of Coyote’s that I had the opportunity to read.  I sped through the short stories feeling like Ivan was sitting in the booth across from me just shooting the breeze.

Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg - Amazing.  See post (coming soon) about the ways this novel affected my life.  Stone Butch Blues is a must read for anyone looking to explore gender and lgbt history.

Bow Grip by Ivan E. Coyote - Fiction, I was nervous.  But it was Coyote so I knew I would love it.  And I did.

The Nearest Exit May Be Behind You by S. Bear Bergman - Wow. I have been wanting to read Bergman’s books for some time, and Nearest Exit was the one I could get my hands on first.  Ze’s work opened my eyes to so many different aspects of gender (both my own and recognizing the differences in others).  I cannot tell you how many times I was sitting and nodding along with Bergman’s profound and often times universal statements.  Gay, straight, trans, anyone can relate to this book!

The Sexual Spectrum: Why We’re All Different by Olive Skene Johnson, Ph. D – An incredibly interesting read if you are a statistic and scientific nerd, which I am, so yay! This was my “purse book” for most of the summer and all fall.  I carried it around with me and would pick it up and read a few pages when I found myself with a bit of down time. The book provided great insight and theories into the psychologies and chemical make-up of the queer community. With some personal anecdotes from Johnson about her family and gay children the book has more depth than the standard scientific look at the differences between queer and non-queer peoples.

Butch is a Noun by S. Bear Bergman – Currently reading, currently loving.
